Open Podcast Awards

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can submit a podcast?

The Open Podcast Awards are open to everyone. Whether you’re an independent creator, part of a podcast network, a journalist, a business, a nonprofit organization, an educational institution, or a public broadcaster, you’re welcome to participate. Our goal is to recognize outstanding podcasts regardless of audience size, production budget, or industry connections.

How much does it cost?

Submission is completely free. Instead of paying an entry fee, every participant contributes by reviewing three podcasts from other categories. This time and expertise are what make the Open Podcast Awards possible. By giving thoughtful, honest, and constructive feedback, creators help maintain a fair, transparent, and community-driven evaluation process while supporting fellow podcasters from around the world.

How does the peer review work?

Every participant has two roles: creator and reviewer. After submitting your podcast, you’ll be assigned a small number of podcasts from categories that do not directly compete with your own. Using our transparent evaluation framework, you’ll provide scores and constructive written feedback while other participants independently review your podcast.

Will I review podcasts that compete against mine?

No. Review assignments are designed to avoid direct competition. Participants are only assigned podcasts from other categories or groups where there is no direct competitive conflict.

How many podcasts will I need to review?

Each participant is expected to review 3 assigned podcasts. The goal is to keep the workload reasonable while ensuring every podcast receives multiple independent reviews.

What do I receive after submitting?

Every eligible submission receives multiple independent evaluations, transparent scoring, and constructive written feedback from fellow creators. Regardless of the final result, you’ll receive valuable insights to help improve your podcast.

How is my podcast evaluated?

Every podcast is evaluated using the same published evaluation framework. Reviewers assess areas such as content quality, audience engagement, originality, communication, structure, production quality, and overall impact before submitting both numerical scores and written comments.

How do you ensure fairness?

Every participant follows the same evaluation criteria. Review assignments are randomized, participants never review direct competitors, and every podcast receives multiple independent evaluations before final scores are calculated. This collective approach reduces individual bias while making the entire process transparent and scalable.

Do I need a large audience to win?

No. Audience size, subscriber numbers, downloads, popularity, and marketing budget are not part of the evaluation. Recognition is based solely on the quality of your podcast as evaluated by the community.

Can I submit more than one podcast?

Yes. Creators may submit multiple podcasts. However, each additional submission requires reviewing three more podcasts from other categories as part of the peer review process. Every submission is evaluated independently and receives its own set of peer reviews, scores, and constructive feedback.

Can I submit multiple episodes?

Detailed submission guidelines will be published before entries officially open. Our goal is to allow creators to showcase their strongest work while maintaining a fair and consistent evaluation process.

Will every submitted podcast compete for an award?

Yes. Every eligible submission automatically participates in the Open Podcast Awards after completing the peer review process.

When are submissions open?

The inaugural Open Podcast Awards will launch once enough founding participants have joined the waiting list to create a meaningful and balanced peer review process. Join the waiting list to be among the first creators invited to participate.

When are the winners announced?

Winners are announced after the peer review process has been completed and all eligible podcasts have received their assigned evaluations.

Will I receive feedback even if I don’t win?

Absolutely. Helping creators improve is one of the core goals of the Open Podcast Awards. Every eligible participant receives constructive written feedback regardless of the final ranking.

Can podcasts from any country participate?

Yes. The Open Podcast Awards are an international initiative welcoming creators from around the world, subject to the published eligibility requirements.

What makes the Open Podcast Awards different?

Most podcast awards rely on a small panel of judges. The Open Podcast Awards are powered by the podcasting community itself. Every participant becomes both a creator and a reviewer, helping build one of the world’s largest podcast peer reviews. Every submission receives multiple independent evaluations, transparent scoring, constructive feedback, and the opportunity to earn international recognition.

Why should I join the waiting list?

The Open Podcast Awards will launch when enough founding participants have joined to create a fair and meaningful peer review community. By joining the waiting list, you’ll receive launch updates, early access to submissions, and become part of the community helping bring this new model of podcast recognition to life.

What if someone intentionally gives my podcast a low score?

No single review determines the outcome. Every podcast receives multiple independent evaluations, and the final result is based on the combined assessment of several reviewers. This community-based approach greatly reduces the influence of individual bias while encouraging fair and constructive evaluations.

To further protect the integrity of the awards, the Open Podcast Awards platform uses intelligent analysis to identify unusual scoring patterns, inconsistent evaluations, or behavior that appears intentionally malicious or manipulative. Reviews that clearly violate our evaluation guidelines or attempt to unfairly influence the results may be flagged, investigated, and removed from the final calculation.

The Open Podcast Awards are built on a simple principle: creators should be willing to both give and receive honest, respectful, and constructive feedback. Every participant receives clear evaluation guidelines explaining how to review podcasts fairly and consistently. We encourage reviewers to recognize strengths, provide thoughtful suggestions for improvement, and evaluate every submission on its own merits.

“By combining transparent criteria, multiple independent reviews, and intelligent quality controls, we aim to create one of the fairest and most trusted peer review systems in podcasting.”
