Marcio Ballas, a Brazilian TV moderator, entertainer, and clown, created an interesting approach to boost creativity and promote problem-solving.
The power of YES.
Graduated from the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, he spent decades working with creativity to find out the transforming power of this tiny word: YES.
Instead of listing a finite number of possibilities, and choosing the most realistic ones, he proposes to take the first given idea and stick with it. Follow along, empowering and developing any possibilities related to this single idea. Embrace the apparently impracticable and work to improve it.
This process of not discarding ideas, but instead going along, demands flexibility, adaptation and improvisation, which certainly will lead to innovation.
A pleasant side effect is that joy and fun naturally permeates an environment where participants embrace each other’s ideas.
Each idea is a starting point to discover new pathways. The “YES” will open the gates to follow along.
